SELF Fitness South Bay is a welcoming community that embraces a happy and healthy lifestyle. We offer a variety of HIIT and yoga classes ( SELF Fitness and SELF Zen) . Our High intensity interval training (HIIT) classes incorporate cardio and strength equipment into a one hour class that will get you in the best shape of your life. HIIT is the most effective workout because it combines intense work followed by rest and recovery. We keep the body guessing by challenging you with a different HIIT class every time! We also offer recovery and retreat of mind and body with vinyasa and restorative yoga classes. We created our own signature style low impact toning and lengthening class that combines mat pilates, barre and yoga called Zenlates. Our acronym says it all: Stay healthy, Enjoy Life, Love yourself, and Focus on Fitness.

  • Kate Busmann

    About
    Owner/Co-Founder/Instructor

    Kate is a Doctor of Pharmacy and practices at a local pharmacy. She is a certified personal and group fitness trainer. Dedicated to healthcare and fitness, she loves to stay active, be a part of the South Bay and is excited to offer a workout she truly believes in! She is known for her killer cardio! She loves building the community at SELF and thinks life is all about finding people who are your kind of crazy! You will hear Kate say: It never gets easier you just get better! Kate is the Owner & Co-Founder of SELF Fitness South Bay and Founder of SELF Zen

    Trainer

    Michelle is a certified personal and group fitness trainer with experience in strength training, swimming, dancing and aerial arts. She is known for her sweet smile and voice but don’t let it fool you; she gives a killer HIIT workout that will leave you feeling unstoppable! You will hear Michelle say: Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we’re supposed to be and embracing who we are (Brene Brown).

    Ryan Is a certified fitness trainer with 12 years experience in personal and group fitness. He played sports for over 23 years in Turkey, his native country. He specializes in customized training plans and fitness assessments. He is also certified in indoor cycling and crossfit training. Ryan is passionate about improving client health and creating an active lifestyle for them. He loves to do anything that ends in the word "bike" & "board" (skateboard, dirt bike, surfboard, snowboard, wakeboard, off road bike) ....you get the point! During class you will hear Ryan say "You are stronger than you think".

    Lisa originally found fitness as a way of regaining her sense of self after motherhood.  While she cherishes the daily challenges and rewards of raising 3 daughters, she values the importance of self care and healthy living.  Her hobbies of spinning,  HIIT, yoga and TRX soon became her passions.  She enjoys sharing this passion and inspiring others to find their inner strength, both physically and mentally.   She believes in creating powerful and effective workouts set to motivating music in a fun atmosphere. Lisa likes to say "Every single life you touch,  moves the story forward.  And so, if you're kind, your story becomes part of many stories." -Iain S. Thomas

    Instructor

    Robert is a certified personal and group fitness trainer; He has over 20 years of fitness experience in the South Bay area and could be called our “Fitness Mayor”. Robert’s passion and love for snowboarding, mountain biking and surfing make him an expert instructor that focuses on strength, conditioning and balance! He will bring out the competitor in you! He is our team builder and will be giving you a high five throughout class. You will hear Robert say: Be so good they can’t ignore you!

    Danielle is a certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness instructor. She specializes in Strength and endurance training, mobility and stability, pre and post natal, and nutrition. Growing up in the South Bay, Danielle played soccer and softball. Being active growing up, she found her passion for fitness and health. On her free time Danielle loves hiking, the beach, and being active with her husband and two dogs, Stella and Bean. When it comes to classes, Danielle may be little but she can pack a punch. Danielle likes to remind her clients " the only true perfection is being the best version of yourself that you can be each day".

    Laura Lucas is a certified personal trainer and nutritionist that believes in leading by example. She enjoys training for bikini competitions to stay in shape and motivate her students. After injuring herself long distance running, Laura discovered strength training and began teaching group fitness to spread her passion for lifting weights. She specializes in bodybuilding, weight loss, and studies functional diagnostic nutrition. She has helped many clients reach their ideal body composition and drastically improve their overall health. You will often hear her say, “Start with the end in mind. If you can see it, you can achieve it.”

  • Steven Haahr

    A Chicago born California transplant, Steven is no stranger to REAL weather or a REAL sweaty workout. Steven is a NASM certified personal trainer and has been athletic his whole life. He specializes in strength, conditioning and nutrition. After overcoming some life threatening health issues in his early teens, Steven dedicated himself to the study and practice of leading a healthy lifestyle. His passion for fitness stems from the knowledge that fitness can change your life. He carries that passion and drive into every single workout. Other than the occasional pancake breakfast indulgence (his weakness) he lives and breathes fitness.  Stevens life motto is ”A strong heart is a grateful heart. Ground yourself in gratitude”.

  • Tanaz Henry

    Tanaz is an RYT with 270 hours of training in Yin, Restorative and Vinyasa yoga. She specializes in teaching yoga through a trauma-informed lens catering to the sensitivities of her student’s nervous system. Living in a busy city like LA she saw how people are in desperate need to rest and recharge from the constant stimulation around them, this is when she began to realize her passion for teaching Yin/Yang and Restorative Yoga. Her classes are a place where students can tap into their internal world, helping them melt away the stress of the day. You can expect her classes to be focused around slow mindful movements that are always focused around the sacred life force of breath. In class you will hear Tanaz say: “You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” Gautama Buddha

    Ruby Murphy is a certified personal trainer who started her fitness journey through a 10 year career in competitive horseback riding. She is a South Bay native with a strong love for strength training and vegan food. In her free time, she enjoys swimming in the ocean, shopping at thrift stores, and spending time with friends and family. You will hear Ruby say: “Results are nothing; the energies which produce them and which again spring from them are everything” (Wilhelm Von Humboldt)

    Trainer

    Heidi is an advocate for humans, supporting them on their journeys of deepening connection to their bodies and exploring desires. She is certified in teaching Pilates, Bar Method and Group Fitness. Her passion is to coach about Sex, Love & Relationships. In class you will hear Heidi say "I am the Queen of my life, and I’m here to awaken more of you"

Our one hour HIIT workouts incorporate cardio and strength equipment into a one hour class that will get you in the best shape of your life. We provide the latest equipment and a variety of HIIT training to keep your body guessing. Our classes are designed for all levels. Beginners are given weight and cardio modifications. Advanced clients are challenged to the highest level of fitness.

Monday Wednesday HIIT focus on Upper Body/Abs

Tuesday Thursday HIIT focus on Lower Body

Zen Classes

Vinyasa Flow Yoga will give you strength flexibility and balance. It works to tone muscles as it builds flexibility and stamina. Your flow will focus on weight-bearing standing poses, which build the heat necessary to aid stretching. After getting your endorphins going we will take you through a relaxation state focusing on your breath and mindfulness. This class is designed for all levels; beginners are given direction and our yoga experts are given challenges.

Restorative Flow  is your yoga style if you want to calm and center your body. It incorporates a relaxing flow with breath and alignment. It is a great class to take after a HIIT class to restore and stretch your achy muscles. Restorative flow will allow you to work harder in your next HIIT class bc you are rejuvenated. Restorative Flow is designed for all levels.

Yin-Yang is a combined restorative and vinyasa flow class. The Yin portion of this class is a gentle, quiet, and meditative practice that teaches us to relax and accept ourselves just as we are. All poses are done on the floor so that the muscles can relax and allow the deep connective tissues surrounding the hips, thighs, and lower back to be gently stretched. Through mindful stretching, Yin Yoga maintains the health of the connective tissue and encourages free flow of qi (energy) in the body. Poses are held for longer periods of time (generally 3-5 minutes) and awareness is brought to sensations in the body.

Zenlates is a low impact workout designed to tone and lengthen your entire body. It combines mat pilates, barre and yoga. You will enjoy isometric holds, controlled one inch movements and increasing your range of motion.

Kundalini Yoga Class is a blend of spiritual and physical movement. It incorporates movement, dynamic breathing techniques, meditation, and the chanting of mantra. You will build physical vitality and increase consciousness. Kundalini yoga is designed for all levels and for the open-minded clients.

Yoga Sculpt is a total body yoga class that incorporates yoga postures, light weight training, plyometrics and sculpting exercises. This class will boost your metabolism and build long lean muscle. It is a real BURNER designed for all ages and levels.
